[ARCHIVED] Issue with Water Bills

Due to the extremely wet weather we have been recently experiencing, there were unfortunate and unexpected delays in reading water meters this March and April.

The City utilizes cutting edge technology to read water meters in an effort to minimize costs to our ratepayers; however, there are limits to this technology. Sustained spring rains caused disruptions to the transmissions from the meters to the receivers in our vehicles, and as a result forced the meters to be read manually.  Manual reads are by definition much slower, and the heavy rains also cause issues with physical access to the meters themselves as the meter boxes are oftentimes flooded and must be individually pumped out to be read by the meter technician.  So, what is normally a week-long reading process was doubled due to the bad weather, and as a result many of our customers saw the cost of an extra week included on their water bills.

Please note that if you were one of the customers that had an extra week included on your utility bill, it will balance itself out next month as you will have one less week on your bill and therefore your bill should be lower, assuming that the customer uses a similar amount of water.

The City of Mineral Wells regrets any inconvenience to our citizens, and wants to assure our valued customers that we are doing everything possible to ensure that we are taking every reasonable action to ensure that future occurrences are minimized.
