Historical Marker Program

Overview
The City of Mineral Wells sponsors a program through which individuals or organizations may recognize a historically significant building, site, event or person(s) within the city limits. This is based upon the fact that there are historical elements associated with our community which are of local significance but may not be considered of such consequence as to receive designation through the Texas Historical Commission.

Requirements
Markers shall adhere to the template which is attached to the application and may be no larger than 18” X 32”. The cost of the marker, to include installation and any subsequent repair or replacement, shall be the responsibility of the person(s) or organization submitting the nomination. Each nomination shall be reviewed and approved/denied by the Historical Marker Review Committee composed of the Mayor of the City of Mineral Wells and one (1) representative each from Historic Mineral Wells and the Mineral Wells Heritage Association. The Historical Marker Review Committee shall have sole discretion on the approval/denial of all markers and shall approve the wording to be carried on the marker. Decisions of the Historical Marker Review Committee shall be considered final.
