Lifeguard Course Prerequisites - Updated 4-5-2022

Prerequisites: Student must be at least 15 years old by the end of course and pass the pre-course swim screening held the first night of each class.
Pre-requisites for Lifeguard Class:
1. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. May swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Swim goggles may be used for this exercise.
2. Swim to deep end using front crawl or breaststroke (face may be in or out of water), surface dive to bottom of pool and retrieve a 10 lb. brick, surface and swim on back to return to starting point. Both hands must be on brick. Exit water without using ladder or steps.
3. Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only. Participants should place hands under armpits.

Lifeguard Course (includes CPR course) $75.00  
Lifeguard Re-certification (includes CPR course) $35.00 plus $6.50 if a C.P.R. is needed.

Refund Policy for Lifeguard Course:
If the applicant does not pass the pre-swim test, and is unable to continue with the class, a partial refund will be issued through The City of Mineral Wells. The instructor must be notified of the intent to withdraw from the class. The instructor will notify The City of Mineral Wells, and a refund of $50.00 will be issued within thirty (30) days. The $25.00 is a fee for incurred costs up to the point of withdrawal, and will be retained by The City of Mineral Wells. Withdrawal at any point after class has begun, there will be no refunds.

There are no other refunds for course registration fees.
