Sex Offender Registration

Convicted sex offenders are required to register with their local Sex Offender Registrar. The Mineral Wells Police Department is responsible for managing the records of registered sex offenders living within the city limits of Mineral Wells. Sex offenders living outside the city limits, but within Palo Pinto County or Parker County, must register at their respective Sheriffs Departments. Registration requirements vary and offenders are responsible for keeping abreast of any changes to their obligations. The State of Texas maintains a searchable registry of sex offenders and where they live. The Texas Public Sex Offender Website can be searched for registered offenders who live anywhere in Texas. A National Sex Offender Search utility can be found at the same site.

While Texas has few restrictions on where registered offenders may live, municipalities can pass more restrictive ordinances modeled on the state laws in Chapter 341.906 of the Local Government Code. In 2023, the City of Mineral Wells passed its own ordinances (see Article IV, Chapter 66, of the Mineral Wells Code of Ordinances). Most significantly, the ordinances prohibit registered sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of Child Safety Zones. The boundaries for where sex offenders are prohibited from living can be found on this map. These residential limits only apply to offenders who registered after November 7, 2023.
