General Codes – Permitting 2012IFC

The City of Mineral Wells Fire Marshal's Office follows the 2012 International Fire Code, The Council of Government Amendments (COG), 2012 International Building Code, Current NFPA Standards and our local ordinances that have been adopted by the City.

[A] 105.1 General. Permits shall be in accordance with Sections 105.1.1 through 105.7.16.

 [A] 105.1.1 Permits required. Any property owner or authorized agent who intends to conduct an operation or business, or install or modify systems and equipment which is regulated by this code, or to cause any such work to be done, shall first make application to the fire code official and obtain the required permit.

 [A] 105.1.2 Types of permits. There shall be two types of permits as follows: 1. Operational permit. An operational permit allows the applicant to conduct an operation or a business for which a permit is required by Section 105.6 for either: 1.1. A prescribed period. 1 .2. Until renewed or revoked. 2. Construction permit. A construction permit allows the applicant to install or modify systems and equipment for which a permit is required by Section 105.7.

 [A] 105.1.3 Multiple permits for the same location. When more than one permit is required for the same location, the fire code official is authorized to consolidate such permits into a single permit provided that each provision is listed in the permit.

 [A] 105.2 Application. Application for a permit required by this code shall be made to the fire code official in such form and detail as prescribed by the fire code official. Applications for permits shall be accompanied by such plans as prescribed by the fire code official.

Plan Submittals

FEE SCHEDULE

All new plan submittals for the following permit types must be submitted Through the Fire Marshal’s Office at 212 S. Oak Avenue.

All Fire Alarm, Fire Pump and Sprinkler Systems will need a 3rd Party review. Please see the list of firms we will accept. No other firms will be accepted.

Approved 3rd Party List

      o Access Control Egress Doors and Gates

      o Commercial (Kitchen) Hood Suppression System

      o Fire Alarm

      o Fire Pump

      o Fire Sprinkler (all)

      o Fire Service Underground Water Main (UGFM)

      o Remote Fire Department Connection

      o Paint Booth

      o Tank removal and installation.

      o Underground vaults

      o Hazardous materials storage.

      o New building construction plans


A FULL SET OF “PAPER” PLANS WITH ARCHITECTUAL STAMP ARE REQUIRED FOR APPROVAL.

Submit plan packages to the Mineral Wells Fire Marshal’s Office at 212 S. Oak Avenue.

Plan submittal packages must include the following:

      o Application For Permit

      o Contractor Registration Form

      o Bid sheets for project valuation verification (sprinkler and FARS only)

      o A full set of “PAPER” plans with ARCHITECTURAL STAMP.

      o All specifications and calculations related to the submittal

      o Any other pertinent documentation                                                                             

The forms are “FILLABLE” and located on the “Forms” tab. Please submit all forms and plans to chedrick@mineralwellstx.gov.

Your submittal will be checked for accuracy within 48 hours (not including weekends). The Fire Marshal’s Office will contact you via phone or the email address from which the plans were submitted if any additional information is needed or as it is placed in the queue for review.

Once the plans are reviewed you will be contacted by the Fire Marshal’s Office if the plans need more information for approval. Our office will calculate the permit fees with instructions on how to pay via phone.

Once payment is complete, the Fire Marshal’s Office will email the approved plans and permit. As normally required, plans and permits must be kept on-site and failure to comply will result in a failed inspection and working without a permit.

THE MINERAL WELLS FIRE MARSHAL’S OFFICE RESERVES THE RIGHT, AS THE AHJ, TO STOP CONSTRUCTION AT ANY TIME IF THE PROCESS DOES NOT MEET THE APPROVED PLANS, IF NEW INFORMATION IS INTRODUCED OR IF LIFE SAFETY MEASURES ARE NOT MET PER CURRENT NFPA - IFC STANDARDS AND GUILDLINES.

Inspection Requests

ALL OTHER PERMITS may request an inspection through the following means:

The request must be made by the company the permit is issued to.

System Impairments

In accordance with State law, and to ensure the continued functionality of required fire protection systems, all red and yellow tagged system notices shall be submitted via email to chedrick@mineralwellstx.gov.

Mobile Food Truck and Trailer

To operate a mobile food truck, trailer or tent in the City of Mineral Wells, you must follow the procedures below.

      1. Complete the Mobile Food Permit.

      2. Follow the Food Truck Guidelines and NFPA Food Truck Fact Sheet.

      3. Submit all forms and requests to firemarshal@mineralwellstx.gov

Once all procedures are complete an “Inspection Sticker” will be issued. The sticker will be displayed on the inside of the truck/trailer and is good for one year.
